Hawaii Driving Institute
Dear Parent/Student,
Thank you for inquiring about the
upcoming driver education classes. The potential prevention of one car
crash is well worth the price of a driver education program. Enrolling
your son or daughter in a driver education program is an investment in
their future towards becoming a safer driver. Statistics show that
graduated licensing programs have saved many lives.
DRIVER EDUCATION
PROGRAM –
Consists of
30 hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours of behind the
wheel instruction as required by law.
TUITION
-
is
$399(+ tax)*
when you register and make
payment at least 10 days before the first day of class. Otherwise,
please pay the regular tuition fee of $425(+ tax)**.
REGISTRATION –
Please
fill out and sign the two forms that can be downloaded from our website.
� Note
that depending on the session, there is one or two meetings that at least
one parent per student are required to attend.
Please refer to the
schedule for appropriate day(s) and time(s).
All
instructors are State of Hawaii, Department of Transportation certified.
Subject to Hawaii
State Law, Chapter 19 - 122-251 of the Hawaii Administrative Rules
requires that the driver education program
(including classroom and behind the wheel instruction) be not less than
six weeks long. When taking classroom instruction from one school
and BTW instruction from another, instruction with each school must be
taught over a period no less than 6 weeks long. When taking the classroom
and BTW instruction from the same school, it may be taught concurrently
over a 6 week period of time.
CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION
-
Year-round classroom sessions
are ten each 3-hour classes.
Our
Spring, Summer, Fall, and
Christmas break classroom
sessions
are either five each 6-hour classes, or eight each 3 3/4-hour classes. It
is recommended you register
early for these sessions. Please refer to the attached yearly classroom
schedule for class days and times.

Aiea

Classes
are held in the
Niihau or Kaho’olawe Room of the
Wayland
Baptist University Learning Annex
located in the Aiea Commercial Center. When traveling on Moanalua Road,
turn Oceanside at Aiea Heights Drive. You are now on Kauhale Street.
Turn into the second driveway on the left. Immediately to your right is a

BEHIND THE WHEEL INSTRUCTION
- Behind-the-wheel sessions
may begin
anytime after 12 hours of
classroom instruction.
This
overlap
enables the student to develop good
driving habits by immediately applying what was learned in the
classroom. This will allow for the information to be built upon and
reinforced.

BTW schedule sign-ups -
Students will be
partnered with a classmate and sign up for 6 separate 2 hour
BTW sessions.
BTW sessions to
occur outside of scheduled classroom sessions. Sign ups to occur after 6
hours of classroom instruction.
Their final BTW
session is to be no sooner than the 6th weekend of the program.
